Disdow Cottage Community FAQS
What sort of articles do you want?
Absolutely anything that celebrates this corner of South West Scotland. Recipes, bike rides, rambles, short stories, amusing anecdotes, local history? You name it - we want to hear about it.
Is there anything to avoid?
We are not looking for any 'political' articles, nor any articles that criticise or otherwise harm anyone or any group.
We are also not looking for articles that are just adverts for existing businesses. We may well accept some 'gentle' endorsement and we are more than happy to link out to local businesses that contribute to our Community. But this Community aims to be a shared resource for anyone in the area to enjoy - not a page of classified ads.
How long do you want the article to be?
As a general rule we are looking for articles that are no more than 500 words. We will obviously use our discretion and if an article is especially engaging, we will give it the space it deserves.
But this is the internet people - and attention spans aren't long. Keep it short and keep it sweet.
Is there any other information I should provide?
A picture is worth a thousand words - Not sure I entirely believe that but we would love to see at least one picture we can use with your article.
For Bike rides, rambles and hikes - if the route is on a website (Strava / Komoot / OS Maps) then please link to it so people can download any appropriate GPX files. Also give details on the distance, difficulty, and expected duration.
For recipes, please list the ingredients (can we keep to metric measurements if possible?) followed by a clear method. There is a good chance we will try the recipe out ourselves and we need idiot-proof instructions!
If you have not contributed to the Community before we also want to know a little bit about you. A picture and short bio should suffice along with any email addresses and website links you want to share.
Is there anything else?
Please ensure that you own the copyright to any information that you submit. We really don't want to see a recipe that you have just lifted straight out of The Hairy Bikers latest cookbook. If you are submitting photographs that you have not taken yourself, please let us know who the photographer is so we can credit them appropriately.
If we link to your website then please show us some love and link back to the Disdow Cottage website. The internet loves these relationships, and the more of them we build, the more benefits we will reap.
How do I submit an article?
Email your article and any pictures over to us at info@disdowcottage.co.uk along with any information we need about you.
We reserve the right not to publish an article on the website at our discretion. We may tell you why we have chosen not to publish, or to request any changes to the article so that it is more compatible with our guidelines.
For any more information please read our Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy. You can also email us as info@disdowcottage.co.uk with any questions.
